To get your name on the ballot, you’ll need to fill out some forms — but don’t worry, we can help.

Use the Secretary of State’s “Becoming a Candidate” tool to find everything you need, like:

  • What forms to fill out
  • How to file
  • Who can run for which office
  • Other helpful info

 

📍 Running for Local Office in Lexington-Fayette County

Thinking about running for Mayor, Council At-Large, or District Council?
These jobs follow special rules in the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Charter.
You can get the forms online here, or stop by the Fayette County Clerk’s Office to pick them up.

 

🏁 Starting Your Campaign Early

You can start campaigning early by turning in a “Letter of Intent” to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.
