Kentucky Voter ID Rules – Made Simple
Option 1: Show a Photo ID
You can vote by showing a photo ID that includes your name and is issued by one of these:
- Kentucky State Government
- U.S. Federal Government
- U.S. Military, Merchant Marines, or KY National Guard
- A U.S. college or university (public or private)
- A city or county government in Kentucky
It must include your name and photo.
Option 2: No Photo ID? Use an Affidavit Plus One of These
If you don’t have one of the photo IDs above, you can still vote if you:
- Fill out a voter affidavit at the polls
AND - Show one of the following documents:
- Social Security card
- Any other type of photo ID with your name
- Food stamp/EBT/SNAP card (issued by Kentucky and shows your name)
Option 3: Known by the Election Officer
If a poll worker knows who you are and that you live in the community, they can fill out a form to say it’s really you — you don’t need to show ID.
