Marriage License

To save time in the office, you can complete our online form anytime in advance at www.fayettedeeds.com/marriageform/index/php 

• Both applicants must appear in person and be 18 or older. Contact our office for information if one or both parties is 17 years old.
• Original identification, such as driver’s license, passport, REAL ID, birth certificate, or court papers with name and birthdate, must be presented.  If available, bring multiple forms of identification.
• The license application fee is $60.00, payable by cash, credit card, or check.
• The marriage license can be used anywhere in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 
• Only your application will be completed at our office.  A ‘solemnization’ of the marriage must take place with an officiant and 2 witnesses.  5 individuals, including the 2 parties being married, must be present for the ceremony.  The officiant cannot also be a witness, and neither of the parties being married can serve also as officiant.
• The marriage can be solemnized by:
  • An official of a religious society (any denomination),
  • Kentucky judges, justices, judge-executives, or magistrates.
• If you are choosing a civil ceremony, it is advised to make an appointment with an officiant in advance, and then choose a date near that appointment to come in for your license.
• The license will expire within 30 days if not used.  
• The completed license must be returned to our office following your ceremony within 30 days to be recorded.  Your official certificate will be given to you at that time. If you mail in the completed license, we will mail the certificate.
• Additional certified copies of the marriage license/certificate can be ordered for $5.00 through our office at www.fayettedeeds.com, ordered by mail with a printable form, or purchased in person during office hours.
